YOUR QUESTIONS
how soon should i book?
I book a limited number of sessions each month so that each client receives my personal attention. To ensure availability, it is best to book as soon as possible. Your session date will be locked in once your contract and deposit are received.
do parents need to participate in the photos?
No, if you would rather not be photographed then I will not capture any traditional family portraits. However, I do recommend coming to the session prepared to be photographed. Some children can be shy and hesitant to participate and will retreat to mom’s arms or dad’s lap or insist on being held. In these cases, I encourage parents to cuddle or play with their children, and I will photograph these interactions.
how long will my session take?
Session times vary depending on the session type, the age(s) of the subject(s), and the number of people being photographed. Sessions with smaller families and older children will often take less time, while newborn sessions generally take a couple of hours. I will wrap up the session as soon as I feel like I've gotten a good variety of images.
what should we wear, bring, etc.? what if we've booked an outdoor session and it rains?
All of this and more is covered in the Session Guide, which includes an extensive set of guidelines and ways that you can help your session go as smoothly as possible. You will receive this information once your session has been booked.
what time of day will my session take place?
All in-studio sessions are typically scheduled in the morning, and nap schedules are taken into consideration when determining the exact start time.
Family and child sessions are done outdoors from April through October (or mid-November, depending on the weather). For optimal lighting, outdoor sessions are done in the evening, about an hour before sunset. This means sessions begin as early as 3:30 pm in early Spring or late fall and as late as 7:30 pm during June, July and August. Please keep that in mind when determining the best time of year for your session. Please stick to small children’s usual bedtimes, and schedule your session when it won’t disrupt their typical napping, eating, and bedtimes.
how many final images can i expect to receive after my session?
Image numbers quoted are generally the minimum number that can be expected. While I never limit the number of images shown, I try to provide well-rounded galleries without overwhelming clients with too many choices.
The final number of images ultimately depends on the length of the session, how many people are being photographed, and how well the session goes.
